W. Joe Hoppe

What Are You Doing This Saturday Night?

I'll bring you a bouquet of bananaslugs
wash salt off your snuffbox with sweet gasoline
obscure your porchlight with a pawnshop oyster
and darken your doorstep with romantic intentions

I'll slather your sidewalk with Burma Shave
coat your lawn in a deep pocketed london fog
prevaricate your daddy with a jar of cigars
and a mystery utensil meant just for your mom

We'll bounce off on two wheeled shoeleather soul
bursting forth on the evening like soda pop angels
in a broken drum roll just as far as it'll go
to find ourselves golden in the warm donut dawn

Extremely romantic. I like it.

Loose like a southern Saturday night .
You got the mood tight, you got the tools right, you must be from down here...Every line came like a quick ride through town...Loved it...
