Allisa Sauraan
Neith Explains
It was the gods who
Bruised the world into being.
Before that I was Only,
cast from the watery wastes of Nun. I
think now my brightest
parts washed away.
Caught in the luminous algae, I
fed silver fish to slowness.
I could kiss you and
say I am sorry. Or
slide into sleep before
calamity's wake. But
everywhere at night the
Earth glitters. Her buildings
Rising like fat, glass stalks,
I bear down. I
bear down and consider
how she sways in her
sequined skirts like a
tired dancer.
