Scott Poole

Donuts

Six letters stacked on top of each other
like the six cars going up the hill at five.

A man can be a cup of coffee
with a spoon in his mouth and sugar

in his heart. He can wear a donut
everyday under his clothes. He

can even float down a river
on the weekends eating pastry.

That's his option. It's five o'clock.
Look at all the people trying to make it home.

Scott Poole lives in Spokane, WA with his family. His first book, The Cheap Seats was a finalist for FOREWORD MAGAZINE's book of the Year Award in Poetry. His second book, Carry a Glass House, will be coming out from Lost Horse Press in the Spring of 2002.
